Stuff, Things, Freebies...

Heddy mentioned that she'd not tried buying yarn online yet - it's tough for me to not order online, though; Orlando isn't exactly a happening place for knitterly pursuits, and my LYS, as much as I completely adore it, doesn't carry a tremendous amount of sock yarns; further, none of them are indie dyers. My favorites are the indie dyers, so I do most of my shopping online. (Psst, Heddy, a word of caution: it is a slippery, slipperly slope!)

A couple of folks mentioned my poor flogged and bleeding wallet - most of my stashing lately has been gathered with destashing funds - so I haven't been tapping the mortgage or wedding accounts in the interest of yarny pursuits. (Well, not this time anyway.) It is time for me to slow down, though.

I just noticed the other day that I'm coming up on my one-year blogiversary - this blog, anyway. (My other blog is coming up on its one-year-abandonment blogiversary. I had it for almost two years, though, so I can't bring myself to delete it.) And, in the spirit of knitting blogiversaries, I'm running the obligatory contest.

Everyone who leaves a comment between now and midnight eastern time on March 17th (Saturday) will be entered in the contest. Any comment, any post - and it doesn't have to be the least bit profound - if you just want to delurk and leave a comment on this post saying "enter me", go nuts. One entry per reader, puhlease....as for the swag....well, as you can imagine, it's sock yarn.

I haven't decided yet how many winners I'll have - but I've got an idea of what the prizes would be. There may be some Cherry Tree Hill.....there may be some Kindred Spirit....there may even be some Sweet Georgia!

So don't forget to leave a comment this week - the winner(s) will be chosen at random on Sunday morning.

I'll be starting on my wedding stockings soon. I'm not planning on wearing shoes, and my mom is very concerned about this. Granted, we're not always the luckiest people, and I'm fully expecting that anything that can go wrong will...but she had a really intriguing theory about the sorts of things that could be present at the wedding.

Mom: "But what if you step in something???"
Me: "Like what?"
Mom: "I don't know, dog poo or something!!"
Me: "Um. If my wedding features an aisle smeared with dog crap, no amount of pretty high heels are going to make me feel better."
Mom: "But what if??"
Me: "You know what, if that happens, I'll be thrilled. Because my socks and dress will be ruined, but be damn sure my wedding will be free!"
Mom: "Hmm, good point....I'll get there early, you distract the inn's owner."

Heh. Heh heh.

Congratulations on your 1 year blogiversaries (the current and previous, now defunct ones!).

Ahh, yes ... the virgin internet shopper is no more -- after seeing your wonderful batch of yarns that arrived, I promptly ordered some of my own (Lexa is also getting a skein) -- Socks that Rock had some colours that just haunted me all day, and into the evening, so this morning, I became an internet shopper!

Your Mother sounds hilarious! (the "distract the inn keeper comment" had me laughing out loud!).

I am a sucker for a contest -- and am really into sock knitting right now -- so please enter me!

P.S. -- I meant to write yesterday re: the pictures of your fiance in his tux -- he could get away with an awful lot of stuff at my house if he gave me the look he is giving you in photo #2! LOL! You are a lucky girl - he's quite the hottie!

  4. At my wedding the only thing (seriously) that my mother INSISTED on was that I wear shoes during the actual ceremony.

I never ever wear shoes if I don't have to, but I did to make my mom happy. Granted the second that the reception started my shoes were off in a corner somewhere. :)

And I totally understand about the online shopping. Tallahassee isn't the greatest place to purchase yarn either.

  5. not only is online yarn shopping a slippery slope, sock yarn in general is like crack.

i hated knitting socks, but always fell in love with the sock yarn. i made myself love knitting socks so i wouldn't have to knit a sweater on size US1 needles...

I'm de-lurking, I use Google reader and I have so many yarn blogs but still I find them all gripping reading. Well done on the year, I never made it that far and all my blogging history got deleted.
I'm also trying to plan a wedding and I'm way behind you on achieving any of it!
Please put me through to the comp. I'd love some sock yarn! Thanks for being one of the people I turn to for that bit of extra yarn in my life.

  8. You continue to crack me up Alyson, thanks for the Monday smile, it was much needed.

It's only been on extremely rare occassions that I have bought yarn in a bricks and mortar store - or anything for that matter, I LOVE online shopping :)

  9. Yay one year! Your post reminded me that I have some abandoned blogs out there... sad thing is I don't even remember where they are. I guess as long as you know where one blog is, it's ok right??

  10. Love the Ma conversation!

Enter me in your contest, too! Can't pass up possible freebies.

Yes, Heddy caved and ordered Socks That Rock. I ordered one skein with her, too (saves on shipping). Once she gets that hand-dyed goodness she'll be a goner for sure.
